Published 12:00 am PDT Thursday, June 28, 2007Eppie's Great Race. Billed as the world's oldest triathlon, the 34th annual event will be July 21 on the American River Parkway. Starting times for adaptive divisions will be 7:58 a.m., all others 8 a.m. Teams and/or individuals may compete in divisions from junior to Ironperson to 70 years and older. For kids, there will be a duathlon with a 2.5-mile run and a 6-mile bike ride. Great Race participants run, bike and paddle kayaks on a race course. In addition to participants, the race welcomes volunteers to help out before, after and during the competition. Check out www.thegreatrace.org. Funds raised benefit programs for the Sacramento County Therapeutic Recreation Services, which support mentally and physically challenged people. All entry fees are donated to SCTRS. Since the first event, more than $707,800 has been raised.
