5th Annual

Kids Duathlon
INFORMATION

What is a duathlon?
A duathlon is is an event that combines two activities, most commonly running and cycling. Training for and competing in duathlons has become a popular way to achieve overall fitness, since more muscles are being used as compared to training for just one of these activities.

What is THE GREAT RACE®?
THE GREAT RACE® is a triathlon (three events - run, cycle, paddle) held along the scenic American River Parkway. It was founded in 1974 by Sacramento area restaurateur/entrepreneur Eppie Johnson and has been held every year since, making it "The World's Oldest Triathlon"®. THE GREAT RACE® is a Sacramento-area summertime tradition for elite athletes, fitness enthusiasts and families. It's primary beneficiary is Sacramento County Therapeutic Recreation Services and over the years has raised over $850,000 for this organization.

THE GREAT RACE® presents the Fifth Annual KIDS DUATHLON
This event's primary goal is to show our youngsters that healthy outdoor activities are fun, exciting, and rewarding, in turn helping them to improve their fitness. Since THE GREAT RACE® is popular with families, the KIDS DUATHLON will provide children with their own event - they can compete in it while other family members are tackling THE GREAT RACE®. Also, this duathlon introduction will encourage the entrants to continue these activities and to someday compete as triathletes in THE GREAT RACE®.

Training Program
See the two-month Kaiser Permanente
Kids Duathlon Training Program that will assist the entrants to achieve their finish goal. It has special incentives to help the youth gradually build up their mileage so they will be able run 2-miles and to cycle 5.75-miles.
